XAT 2009 comprised of 3 sections, and a total of 104 questions. The section wise split was - Verbal and Logical Ability (VA and LR) : 35, DI and Quants : 38, Analytical Reasoning and Decision Making : 31. The XAT 2009 can be termed as medium to high in terms of difficulty level. The DI and Quants section was the most difficult of them, as per feedback from most XAT takers.
Expected Cut Off : A score of 33+ could get you a XLRI call, while 30+ should be enough for a XIM call. For other institutes like GIM etc cut-off should be between 27-30.
In Quants, the questions were from Algebra, Arithmetic, Geometry and Modern Maths. 12 questions were from DI and DS. And as usual, these required more of thinking than any hard calculations. Also finding the simple Arithmetic questions was the key, as there were quite a few sitters, and could be critical in clearing the cut-offs.
In this section, questions were from Data arrangement, Decision Making, Business Judgement, and Logical Reasoning (LR).This was the easiest of the sections. Like other sections, there were quite a few simple questions, and choosing them wisely was the key.
This section had Reading Comprehension, Verbal Reasoning and Logical Reasoning questions. The 3 passages for RC can be rated as difficult and required careful reading. RC was the biggest contributor to this section, and for candidates good in RC, this section was a good choice to start with. The questions on Para Jumbles were quite difficult and time taking, and could have been avoided. Instead questions on Logical Ability were good to attempt and score.
